The young Polish rider, who started from pole position and finished fourth in the race, completed a weekend unbefitting for a rookie in the category
The AGR Team was once again just off the podium in the second FIM JuniorGP round. Milan Pawelec was once again one of the biggest surprises of the championship as, in only his second round in Moto2, he took pole position on Saturday and a creditable fourth place in Sunday's race.
Pawelec started well and held first position, but on the second lap the race direction showed the red flag after finding oil on the track at turn six. The race was restarted with ten laps to go and the AGR Team rider lost two positions. Pawelec was always in the fight for victory and rode most of the race in podium positions, but finally crossed the finish line in fourth position, just half a second off his first podium in Moto2. The Polish rider also set the fastest lap of the race with a time of 1:41.640.
In the JuniorGP class, Kgopotso Mononyane managed to score points in the first race with a fifteenth place, while in the second race he finished twenty-fourth. Marianos Nikolis was sixteenth and eighteenth, Owen Van Trigt twenty-third and twenty-sixth and Yvonne Cerpa twenty-eighth and crashed in the second race, although she showed great progress in her first weekend of competition in this category.
In the European Talent Cup, Kiyano Veijer continued to gain experience and was very consistent. Finally, the Dutch rider finished 22nd in the first race and improved to 16th in the second race.
Milan Pawelec: "The race was very difficult. We had a good start and the first part went well, but it was stopped by a red flag. The second race was very tough, I finished fourth and I am happy about that. I think I lacked some experience, but we are on the right track to reach the podium. We will keep training and preparing for the next race at Magny-Cours. Thanks to all the team for their work and support".
Kgopotso Mononyane: "The feeling was very good. I knew we were starting the race from the back, I had no pressure and I just wanted to learn as much as possible and move up positions. I felt very good with the bike, we got a good setting in practice, where we also got a good pace for the race. In the end, I just had to manage the tyres and know how to read the race. In both races we fought for the points, which coming from 23rd position is a very positive thing. The time was good, we were consistent despite the crash in the second race. I was able to make a big step forward in my riding and I want to continue to do so in the next rounds. We know our potential, I am happy with the progress we have made this weekend. Thanks to everyone for their work, we'll be back at Magny-Cours looking forward to more".
Marianos Nikolis: "Both races were very good for me, and they were my first two full races in JuniorGP. I am very happy to have been able to fight for points, I was able to make a good start and I fought with several riders and overtook them. All this has allowed me to show my potential and gain experience. Thanks to the team for all the work and what they are doing for me. We will keep on training to arrive at Magny-Cours as prepared as possible".
Owen Van Trigt: "In race one we had a good start, but on the first lap another rider touched me in the first corners and this caused me to lose positions from the start. I tried to get back into the group, but I was already far behind. In the second race I also lost the group after a small scare in turn 8, so again I had to come back, it was not the best Sunday of racing, but we will keep working to improve for the next round".
Yvonne Cerpa: "In the first race I got a good start and was able to overtake several riders on the first lap. This allowed me to position myself in a group that had more pace than me, so I was able to learn from them. I went long to avoid a collision with another rider and then I was a little bit off the pace. I tried to recover, but in the end I couldn't catch them. I'm happy with the work I did here. In the second race I didn't have such a good start, I tried to go on the inside of the first corner, I couldn't avoid another rider and I crashed. It was a pity because I would have liked to do both races to continue learning. I'm happy with the progression of the weekend and we'll continue to give our best in the next races".
Kiyano Veijer: "The first race was difficult. I didn't have a good start and then I tried to push as hard as I could to make up positions. On lap five or so I had cramps in my leg and I couldn't ride comfortably. In the second race I showed the strength I lacked in the first race to overtake other riders. I felt good in the group and on the last lap I tried to do my best to be at the front of the group. I'm happy with the weekend's work".
